Not just with Montauk and their Kindle Scout program, but by opening the door to indie publishing. No, the behemoth Amazon, in effect, became a publisher. With AQP’s closure, I believe at least four houses have been forced out of business in the past year. I was among many long-timers who wondered if small presses could survive. In the last two years, I watched royalties slowly decrease for all of us due to a major drop in sales from Amazon. Through their support of my work, and thanks to my fans, I earned Published Author Network (PAN) status in Romance Writers of America, saw my stories final and place in romance contests, and built a wonderful online network of author and fan friendships. The AQP owners and staff were wonderful to work with, they operated an honorable publishing house, and I feel a deep sense of regret that changes in the publishing world have created its demise. I like being with a publisher, and am crushed at the loss of mine.

I'm keen to avoid spending on things like Facebook adds, so if anyone knows of good platforms to market books sold in the UK, I'd be really grateful to know of them. I'm on Twitter, Goodreads, Facebook and I have an author's website (but sadly, also a common name!). I'd rather that than have them sitting in my office.Īlso, if anyone has any good tips for marketing books for free, I'm all ears. Most of my friends and family have already bought a copy to support me, so if any UK-based redditors are interested in receiving a copy in exchange for a review, I'd be happy to post one or two of the review copies out, free of charge of course. My editor kindly sent her remaining review copies to me. But it now means that I will be the only person marketing my novel. I'm not too worried about my career, as I have two other publishers I'm currently working with.

I was told that they'd be keeping her on to market and promote their books, for a few years at least. (The company was founded in the 1890s, so that's a big deal to me).

I knew that my publisher was winding down its fiction arm in favour of commercial printing, just as I knew that I would be one of the last authors they'd ever publish. Yesterday my editor sent me a lovely notebook and some copies of my book she had lying around the office. This is both a bit of a moan, a request for advice and a book giveaway - please delete if not allowed.
